Super X Country Base Layer and Tee Review

I’ve looked at SuperXCountry’s fabulous XC colours for a long time now and always promised myself that one day when I had a horse to XC I would have a set from them. They are based in Sheffield close to me, are a small company and I love the idea of supporting someone local. So obviously I was thrilled when I got Solaris on loan and although she is green at jumping and it may be a while before we do any proper XC I felt ready to start checking out their website in earnest.

I soon realised that not only do they do fab XC sets in loads of different colour combinations, they have branched out into training tops, breeches and tees for general riding and schooling. I loved the idea of layering up to suit the weather so I decided to put a Super Zip Neck Top and an Exclusive Super Tee through their paces. Here’s what I thought of them.

First impressions

Of the Training Top were that the white edging and printing down the back of the black shirt made it look super smart, the fabric felt soft and with 13 % elastane it has some stretch. I take a size 10-12 in UK sizes and the M is perfect on me. One feature I liked is that you can tuck away the tab of the zip and your neck won’t get scratched. I felt comfortable wearing this and I think it’s going to make a great base for me and get a lot of wear. Better if? I’d love more colours and actually while the edging is smart, I would love an option to have it the same colour as the rest of the shirt.

For the Tee, again I had a black one, but this time with teal sequin print in the shape of the SuperXCountry logo on the front. I absolutely adore this tee, it is very soft, has the perfect amount of bling for me and I love how fitted it is. The Tee I have is actually a size S and while it did come up smaller than the Training Top there wasn’t a huge difference. It’s made from a fairly fine poly cotton, so far too light to wear on its own in February, but I think will be perfect in the warmer months and I see me investing in another of these. Better if? No actually I wouldn’t change this at all, this could become my favourite T shirt.

To Wear

As it’s a bit chilly out I had decided that these two shirts would look fab layered, so I cracked out a matching saddle pad and gilet and tried them out. They looked great together and I actually got 3 looks for the price of 2 because the Tee over the Training Top turned it into a long-sleeved look. After quickly taking some pics for you guys I worked Sol wearing just the tops. I found that once working they were actually warm enough for me. I had no restrictions in movement and felt comfortable. The two layers were enough to take the chill off and meant I didn’t get too hot either.

Looking After Them

Both washed really well, the Training Top is supposed to have a 30 wash and the Tee a 40. I didn’t check that and the Training Top did survive a 40 without losing shape or colour, Oops! It’s non iron and shouldn’t be tumble dried though, lucky I noticed that. The Tee can have a cool iron, but it honestly looked good anyway.

Conclusion

I really loved these tops, they are a great price and I see myself wanting more of them in different colours for matchy purposes. SuperXCountry have a winner here and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do next. Maybe a short-sleeved version of the Training Top for warmer weather?
